11th July 2008 - Two and a Half Men (Season 5)

Completed the 'Complete Season of Two and a Half Men' last week but its only till Season 4. Bought Season 5 yesterday and that just arrived at the dvd shop. We wouldnt have known about Season 5 if we hadn't googled this sitcom.

We luv the theme song. Its catchy and comprises of only two words, 'men' and 'manly'. Was trying to find a music video for the theme song to attach to this blog but instead found out that we can actually catch this sitcom on YouTube. Told Sean abt this and he said he rather view from the plasma tv than laptop.

Found the MP3 music for this sitcom but can't download to the blog.

Hope that there will be more Seasons to come. Season 5 just ended few months ago in States. Cross our fingers.

8 July 2008 - Scallops

Sean smsed me today and said would like to have dinner by 8pm. Wah, 好大男人呀! 但我喜欢. hehehe...But just dun do it too often as I may feel like a 'maid' after a while. I think he wanted to surprise me cos he was home at 7pm!! That was very early for him.

Did a soup, veggie and seafood last night. Used the ready packed herbs for the chicken soup. Supposingly to be 润肺.

Was doing my marketing in Carrefour and saw scallops in the frozen section. Was comtemplating whether to get it cos the scallops was quite small. Anyway, in the end, decided to buy it to try my hands on steaming seafood with garlic and other seasonings.

Thankfully, I had a garlic press which saved me alot of chopping time. :)

I added garlic, pepper, chilli on all the scallops and used a little black bean paste on half of the qty to test how it would turn out. Both were fantastic!! When Sean opened the cover of the steamer, he commented it was very fragrant.

Surprised to hear him said that cos his sense of smell very bad. It must be the garlic, chilli and black bean paste. :)

7th June 2008 - Weather in Shanghai

Read from Shanghai Daily that the temperature was 38+deg for the past two days!! And there will be more days above 35deg this week.
Time to frequent the indoor airconditioned pool within our condo and get ready to wash our bath tub as well for frequent use in the next two/three months. Was in the pool last friday and the indoor temp was so cooling. :) Dun want to come out.
Looking out of my living room windows, I can see that the trees are stilled ie no wind. I need to get out and get into a shopping centre soon.
Am going to City Market to get stuff for dinner tonight and to the nearby Superbrand Mall to enjoy the aircon. And of cos, to visit H&M. :))
First, gotta go for a cold shower!! Sizzle.........

6th June 2008 - Meat Roll

Finally, I decided to do the meat roll after thinking about it for the past few weeks. I remembered when I was still in Singapore, I helped Mum with this before and can still remembered how to do it.
We couldn't find minced pork at Marche, so we settled for minced chicken. As usual, the preparation work is the most tedious. Dicing onion, mushrooms, chestnuts, carrots. That's alot of dicing cos my dicing is still very slow. Mum's recipe doesn't call for onions and mushrooms but I had these in my frig for sometime and dun want to waste them.
After all the dicing of onions, carrots and mushrooms and half way through the chestnuts, Sean came over and asked if I need any help. I was about to 'throw down the knife' after 5 chestnuts so I got him to help me with it.
HE MADE IT LOOK SO SIMPLE!!! ARGH!! HOW COME HE DIDN'T COME OVER SOONER??
First of all, he made 'skinning' (can't remember the word to use) the chestnut looked so easy by laying it flat on the chopping board and sliced the outer layer all around and then used the back of the knife to remove the top and bottom. Why didn't i think of it?
THEN, he picked up the apple slicer and started to chop the chestnuts. Within seconds, I had my chopped chestnuts. I was dumbfounded and both of us started to laugh about this afterwards. He is sooo good at improvising.
We both agreed that if i were to do this, I would take 5 times the effort/time to do so. And within these times, I would get frustrated.

Since there were still some mushrooms left, he helped me to dice them as well. No point throwing the small qty away.

Within seconds, they were finely chopped. We looked at each other and laughed.

This is the meat patty with diced onion, mushrooms, carrots, chestnuts and a few other seasonings. I forgot to add an egg and some flour. Wrapped them with beancurd skin and imagined myself savouring the crispy skin later. yum yum. Can't wait. Had to get the veggie and salmon dishes done first before I started to fry the meat roll.

Between the above meat patty and the finished product below, I scalded my left hand with splattering oil and woke Sean up in the process.

He had to help me clean up the stove area and floor.

In the end, we put everything into the oven. Not as crispy as I had wanted but good enough. Taste good considering its my first attempt on my own.

Next one to tackle would be Ngian Dou Fu.

We completed all four seasons of Two and a Half Men today. Our version does not come with Season 5. Gotta keep a look out for Season 5 in the DVD shop.

5th July 2008 - Lunch in Shanghai 'Orchard Road'

We were outside our apartment on the way to meet Celine for lunch and saw this illegal rickshaw which can bring us to the MRT for RMB5. Pestered Sean to try this cos I dun wan to walk under this scorching sun all the way to the mrt.

Here we were, in the wooden shelter pulled by a motorised bicycle all the way to Century Park MRT. Quite an adventure cos no seat belts but only the driver as our 'cushion', in case of an accident. It was also quite a bumpy ride and warm ride, with hot wind blowing at our faces.
I have seen some of the residents in our condo used this form of transport. Seems very common here. Anyway, dun think will use this form of transportation again. This was just for the experience. I'll take the bus anytime.

Went to the "Orchard Road" of SHA to this restuarant called 糖潮 or Sugar Dynasty. Pretty good Hongkong food though a tad on the salty side. That's us after our very delish, filling meal. Let's see what Celine blogged abt our meeting at http://missybebe.blogspot.com/

Had a good chat over lunch and headed to our place to get DVDs for Celine. We are going to finished Two and a Half Men soon. So sad. It's such a hilarious sitcom. Gotta watch out if there are other sitcoms around.

Sent her back to her hotel. Luv the comfy bed with white sheets. As long as it's made of sateen cotten, 100% cotton or with more than 400 thread counts, its like lying down on clouds and will put smiles on Sean's and my faces when we zzz..

Wanted to ask Celine to get Straits Times, Her World and Shape magazine for me from Changi Airport. Missed English papers/magazines since coming to Shanghai.

Anyway, thanks for your copy of Her World, Celine. :)

Sean was like: Wah..Good, finally an english read and brought this into the toilet....
